Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have officially announced their decision to divorce. In a joint statement, they expressed that they have mutually and cordially chosen to conclude their marriage.
The renowned singer, Jonas, a member of the acclaimed band, the Jonas Brothers, filed for divorce on Tuesday at a US court. In the legal documents, he cited that their marriage had reached an “irretrievably broken” point.
Jonas and Game of Thrones luminary Turner tied the knot in 2019, eloping in Las Vegas shortly after an awards show. Since then, they have welcomed two children into their family.
In a joint statement posted to their Instagram accounts, 26-year-old Turner and Jonas, 34, said: “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.
“There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Turner, known for her portrayal of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is reportedly in the United Kingdom, currently occupied with filming. Meanwhile, Jonas is embarking on a tour across the United States, accompanied by their two children.
In court filings seen by NBC News – Sky’s US partner network – Jonas said the pair “have shared parental responsibility” over their children, adding that they have a prenuptial agreement – and asking the court to uphold it.
In recent weeks, the musician has been seen without his wedding ring on several occasions. However, it’s worth noting that he was wearing his wedding ring during his performance in Austin, Texas, over the weekend.
Additionally, Turner was observed attending the Jonas Brothers’ opening show in New York last month. Moreover, just a few weeks ago, the British actress shared a photograph on her Instagram account featuring her and Joe Jonas together.
