828 more patients have died in hospitals across England, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 6,483.
The figures, released by NHS England, are those just for England and not the rest of the UK, as those figures are yet to have been announced. These figures count newly-confirmed deaths of hospital patients with COVID-19, reported up until 5pm on Tuesday.
Each individual nation reports their own number of deaths:
- 70 in Scotland – a rise to 366
- 33 in Wales – total is 245
- Five in Northern Ireland – total is 78
The majority of these deaths have come from hospitals in London, with 201 fatalities, followed by the Midlands with 171 coronavirus-related deaths, the North West with 128 the South East with 120, and the North East with 101.
The different home nations collate their figures at different times throughout the day, so there are sometimes discrepancies between the UK government’s total when adding up the individual numbers.
The Department of Health is expected to publish its total update for the UK this afternoon.
