The daily death rate in the UK has passed that of Italy’s worst day for deaths with 938 fatalities
938 people have died in the past 24 hours in the UK, which is noteably higher than that of Italy’s worst daily death rate of 919 fatalities, which is the country with the highest amount of deaths in the world.
These further 938 deaths now bring the country#s total death toll to 7,097 fatalities due to the coronavirus, with 60,733 cases of people in the UK contracting COVID-19.
The deadliest day for COVID-19 in Italy was on March the 27th, with 919 deaths recorded within 24 hours, since then the country’s daily death rate has dropped significantly.
In terms of hope for the UK, it is expected that the country will be hitting its peak for deaths this weekend, and the daily death rate should drop below that as time goes on.
828 more patients have died in hospitals across England, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 6,483.
The figures, released by NHS England, are those just for England and not the rest of the UK, as those figures are yet to have been announced. These figures count newly-confirmed deaths of hospital patients with COVID-19, reported up until 5pm on Tuesday.
Each individual nation reports their own number of deaths:
- 70 in Scotland – a rise to 366
- 33 in Wales – total is 245
- Five in Northern Ireland – total is 78
The majority of these deaths have come from hospitals in London, with 201 fatalities, followed by the Midlands with 171 coronavirus-related deaths, the North West with 128 the South East with 120, and the North East with 101.
Wednesday’s figures marked a second record rise in the number of deaths in successive days, after 854 deaths were announced on Tuesday.
