The COVID-19 school closures could come into effect throughout all UK schools on Friday the 20th of March.
GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES: All Schools across the UK will close from Friday until further notice
Teachers in UK schools have been told to prepare ‘home-learning packs’ as schools are being warned that they may have to close for a month due to the Coronavirus.
This news comes as another positive case of COVID-19 is believed to have been identified at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
As of last night, all UK schools have been alerted and told that they may have to extend the Easter holidays from two to four weeks.
The UK COVID-19 school closures could come into effect on Friday the 20th of March; just weeks before the traditional Easter break.
It would mean that students could be spending a month out of the classroom, creating many childcare difficulties for those parents whom are still working.
Teachers have been told that they need to have the ‘home-learning packs’ prepared for tomorrow (Friday, March 13), despite sources having confirmed that any closures would not be put in place until at least the end of next week.
These packs must include coursework for GCSE and A-Level students as well as curriculum-based learning for younger students.
One teacher has said: “We have had guidance from our head of the academy who has been told to expect at least a week-long closure, possibly two.”
“If schools are closed from mid-March, it wouldn’t make sense to open them up again so close to Easter. We’re preparing for a month at home.”
“The home-learning packs have to be all ready by this Friday, with the aim of sending them home with the kids the following Friday.”
Schools are also putting together lists of children who who have internet access at home to help plan online work for them to complete during the closures.
