The number of Brits diagnosed with deadly coronavirus has jumped to 456 confirmed cases, with 6 people having died from COVID-19; the NHS plans to increase testing to 10,000 people a day.
A drive-through coronavirus test site has opened in Wolverhampton to allow members of the public to check if they have the disease. People are swabbed while sitting in their vehicle before going home and getting their results once the sample has been tested.
New figures from the Department of Health show that 83 people have tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
This news comes shortly after the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, addressed the House of commons for the 2020 budget, setting out his three point plan to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
These figures are accurate as of yesterday and don’t include the new spike in positive cases.
Six people have died of the disease so far in the UK.
The most recent death being at Watford on Monday.
It was revealed on Tuesday night that Health Minister Nadine Dorries had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Dorries, the Conservative MP for Mid Bedfordshire, has played a leading part in the planning of legislation to deal with COVID-19.
It was only on the 24th of February that Italy was at a similar death rate with 7 people having died due to the virus. As of yesterday, Italy’s number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 631. Italy also now has over 10,000 cases of infection to our 456 confirmed cases.
